Ford talking about a unibody Ranger replacement

Car and Driver reports Ford is really mulling an alternative for the not long ago demised Ranger, however the successor to the lightweight pickup's throne might not exactly appear something similar to what we've seen from the nameplate previously

Although speaking at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Doug Scott , marketing manager for Ford Trucks, stated there's still a market for a small pickup , however that customers expect to notice a bigger differentiation between the smaller utility vehicles and their full-sized counterparts in price, ability and fuel economy .

According to Scott , that means a vehicle with a payload capacity of around 1 ,000 lbs combined with a towing capacity of 3 ,000 lbs and "a impressive decrease in fuel consumption." However the biggest part of that recipe is the price, and Scott says to keep the MSRP far enough away from the already cheap F-150 , the solution could come in the form of a unibody design. Scott states target customers in this market don't care whether or not the truck possesses a conventional frame or not, as long as it's tough enough to perform the job and has the capability they need .
