Subaru was certainly one of few automakers whose product sales really picked up during the recent economic downturn . However that auto sales are back on the right track ( and anticipated to hit pre-recession figures this year ) , Subaru is attempting to come up with brand new products to fill up voids in the existing lineup . Wards Auto had an opportunity to speak with Subaru's director-product manager Ken Lin , who mentioned that the automaker is planning to introduce brand new models this year that can help it attract new customers without alienating present ones .
The biggest void , obviously , is a competitive three-row crossover , a role the Tribeca does not fill out one a very well liked segment . Lin declared that while there's nopresent plan to get rid of the Tribeca , Subaru is seeking out producing a bigger three-row CUV with increased interior space . In addition to to something big , Subaru is getting ready to bring its customers a lot more luxury with new touring models , but does not anticipate heading toe-to-toe with Mercedes-Benz as well as BMW .
Towards the end of this year , Subaru will likely be introducing a new hybrid model , even though we don't yet know on which model it will likely be based . What we do seem to know is the fact that the car will get its power from a nickel metal hydride battery pack rather than a more modern lithium-ion pack for the sake of simplicity . Lastly , Linstated a new product being introduced into the sports car segment , but while the post takes this as a hint toward a possible BRZ Turbo , it can also be a reference to the next generation of the WRX and WRX STI
